Preview: Carolina Hurricanes at Chicago Blackhawks

Special Teams

The Hurricanes did a solid job of mostly negating what had been a red-hot Dallas power play. They’ll have a similar challenge as, despite their offensive shortcomings, the Blackhawks’ power play is currently clicking at 33%.

Carolina is no slouch with the man advantage, witnessed by their 27% conversation rate.

In terms of killing penalties, the Blackhawks sit at 78%, almost dead on the league average. The Hurricanes have killed off 91% of their penalties, less than half a percent below the league-leading Colorado Avalanche.

Advantage: Carolina Hurricanes

Outlook

Can Lankinen keep up his phenomenal early-season play?

Will the players returning to the Hurricanes be rusty?

Ultimately, the Hurricanes hold the edge in offense, defense, and special teams. As per usual, goaltending will be the wild card.

For what it’s worth (approximately 13 cents), here is my prediction:

Carolina Hurricanes: 4 – Chicago Blackhawks: 1

First Goal: Andrei Svechnikov

Game time is 8 p.m. EST with Hurricanes Live starting at 7:30. Feel free to leave a comment with your own predictions.
