A STORM IN CAROLINA
The history of hockey in North Carolina began decades before the arrival of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.
Over six decades, the state has hosted teams in numerous leagues, from cities like Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh to a tiny mountain town called Spruce Pine.
It wasn’t always pretty and teams weren’t always viable but it was always interesting!
From a former player running a service station while moonlighting as a coach to a team driver too afraid to drive up a mountain road, it’s all here.
